Whiteley Art Society - a little bit about us

About WAS
Formed 6 years ago for anyone in the community and surrounding areas interested in all aspects of painting and drawing, WAS has since gone from strength to strength with over 100 members. Its aim is to bring together, encourage and inform those who are interested in art in a fun, relaxed and friendly environment. WAS is an affiliated group member of the Society For All Artists (SFAA) an organisation set up in 1992 to 'inform, encourage and inspire all those who want to paint'.
WAS activities
Members attend monthly meetings held throughout the year on the second Monday of each month at Whiteley Primary School, between 7 and 9 pm. These meetings take the form either of a 'paint along' (where individuals bring along their own work and receive support and encouragement); a talk or a demonstration by an established artist. The Society's Events Programme is varied and aims to reflect a wide range of interests.
During the year the Society normally also organises other painting and sketching trips, day and weekend workshops and visits to art-related places of interest. Members can collect booking forms for these events at the normal monthly meetings.
As well as encouraging members to be creative, the Society also encourages members to get to know one another by marking key dates with social occasions such as the popular 'Christmas party'.
